TigerCat Forestry Equipment
Tigercat Shines at Elmia

June 15, 2001 - The Tigercat stand was a busy place during Emia Wood 2001, June 6-9 in Sweden. The equipment line-up included 6-wheel and 8-wheel H16 harvesters, the 8-wheel H09 harvester, F14 and F700 series Tigercat-Hemek forwarders and the prototype 1018 forwarder. Easily the highest capacity forwarder at the show, the 1018 has a number of unique characteristics.

Not based on any prior model, the 1018 was designed from the ground for a portion of the cut-to-length market that is currently unserved. Up until now the contractor requiring a forwarder for severe duty must adapt to machinery that is not well suited to the task.

Explains Tigercat’s Export Manager Gary Olsen who was on hand at the show, "We decided that the manufacturer [and not the contractor] should adapt and we consequently built a machine to perform in the tough conditions often faced in North American and Australian forests."

With just a quick glance, one immediately realizes that the 1018 is totally unique among forwarders. The centre section is built strong with very thick steel plate and tapered roller bearings in both the oscillation and articulation joints. The luxury cab rotates 270 degrees for a perfect view when loading or traveling with no effort required from the operator.

Most of the harvesting duties went to the Tigercat-Hemek H16 harvester with the Pendo hanging cab and Mowi crane. The H16 is a high performance and extremely stable machine. With the Pendo cab, the operator remains relatively unaffected by rocky, uneven terrain and slopes. The H16 was followed by the F14 forwarder, capable in both clear fell and thinning applications.

With a line of proven Tigercat-Hemek forwarders and harvesters, the Tigercat 650 Woodking harvesting head and the new 1018 super duty forwarder, Tigercat is well positioned to continue to capture market share in the growing world cut-to-length market.
