New Tigercat 234 loader exceeds expectations

New model is upgraded to Tier III and achieving high production levels and excellent fuel efficiency numbers
PARIS ON, MAY 8, 2007 – Released in 2006, the new Tigercat 234 has been Tier III upgraded and is now powered by the Cummins QSB6.7 providing an output of 173 hp at a quiet 1,800 rpm. The 234 was designed to be a fuel efficient loader capable of achieving high production in heavy duty cycle applications. The machine is exceeding expectations throughout the southeastern United States.
With fast boom cycles and powerful swing torque, the Tigercat 234 loader achieves high production in challenging delimbing and loading applications. The load sensing, flow-on-demand hydraulic system ensures simultaneous control of all machine functions, excellent fuel economy and reduced heat generation.
The machine is equipped with an oversize swing drive gearbox and a large bearing common to all Tigercat swing machines. A dedicated pressure compensated piston pump ensures swing priority. The operator always has full swing torque and speed. The closed loop swing system further contributes to improved fuel efficiency because the machine recovers energy every time the swing coasts to a stop.
Another fuel saving feature is the automatic idle down. The machines idles down during these periods of inactivity. As soon as the operator actuates a function, the engine speed moves back to working speed.
The Tigercat loader designers have taken special care to ensure that components are located for optimal service access. The engine is mounted high in the frame for better access through large front and rear doors to both sides of the engine. Like all Tigercat loaders, the 234 valves are easily accessible underneath the walk-up platform beside the cab.
The 234 is equipped with a 32 foot boom set achieving 32,500 pound lift capacity at 11 feet. The boom members are resistant to the side load stresses caused by pull-through delimbing. Robust cylinders and large diameter pins with a large wear surface area are used at all boom pivots.
Loader product manager, Peter Maljaars comments, "The 234 frames and booms have been weight reduced as much as possible without giving up structural integrity. The 234 is still a little heavier at 32,750 pounds than other competitors but this is why Tigercat machines have such a long, productive life."
