Subject: Tigercat Adds Rotating Wrists for 5400 Saw
Last fall Tigercat debuted the 5400 single post felling saw, specially designed for
selective cut applications in stands with varying diameter timber. To date, field results
have been excellent but from the outset, contractors and Tigercat distributors were asking
for a rotating wrist option.
Tigercat has developed not one but three possibilities. The 30° wrist option uses a
single cylinder while the 110° wrist has a twin cylinder design. 340° high rotation is
achieved with a 3-motor drive system.
The three wrist options will allow the contractor to closely match the functionality of
the head to specific harvesting requirements for such specialized duties as thinning,
shovel logging and blow down applications.
With two accumulating arms and a single grab arm, small stem bunching efficiency is
improved without sacrificing performance or control in larger diameter wood. Feller
buncher productivity is improved because the operator can cut more trees per swing cycle.
Asymmetric geometry and a slightly offset accumulation pocket keeps the trees in a tightly
aligned bunch to reduce residual stand damage and improve operator visibility.
