New Tigercat 604 cable skidder
PARIS, ON, OCT 6, 2005 – Tigercat has entered into a new market
segment for skidders with the release of the first production run of 604 cable
skidders. The compact 604 is designed for valuable hardwood selective felling
applications. Geographic markets will include the northeastern United States and
Ontario. The 604 is also expected to generate interest offshore.
With a 155 hp (115 kW) Cummins QSB5.9 Tier II engine and Tigercat's enhanced
hydrostatic drive system with variable speed engine rpm, the 604 is a quick,
powerful and fuel-efficient skidder.
The engine house is roomy and uncluttered with convenient access to daily
maintenance points. The tilting cab provides access to the
hydrostatic pump stack, motors and drive-line. The pre-cleaner is housed inside
the engine compartment. The engine house roof profile is smooth and free from
obstruction. Visibility is exceptional.
An electronic control system governs machine functions. It is robust and well designed. Benefits include
integrated troubleshooting and simplified maintenance and repair. Hydraulic
pilot lines are eliminated. Full horsepower can be put to the ground for higher
pulling speeds.
The hydrostatic drive system is an operator’s dream; a smooth ride with no
gear shifting –- just forward and reverse drive pedals. The operator can set the
minimum engine rpm depending on terrain conditions or run at constant rpm for
severe terrain conditions. The operator can also limit maximum speed for
increased machine control in tough terrain.
The large operator's station provides a clear sight lines
along both sides of the engine house and to the rear wheels for easier
maneuvering in tight selective cut applications. A large, easily accessed
chainsaw and tool storage area is integrated into the rear of the cab weldment.
