Tigercat releases 3rd generation 726 series feller buncher
The new 726D, Tigercat's highest production
drive-to-tree feller buncher, is totally redesigned with three separate
compartments for the cooling system, engine and hydraulic components.
PARIS, ON, July 5, 2004 – It has been over twelve years since
the debut the original 726 feller buncher, Tigercat’s first entry into logging
equipment market and the machine that put Tigercat on the map. The durability
and productivity of the 726 allowed Tigercat to gain instant credibility among
southern US loggers. Now Tigercat has unveiled the third generation of the
famous drive-to-tree feller buncher.
The new 726D has been totally updated and enhanced. Positioned as the
largest, highest production machine in the drive-to-tree line-up, the 726D is
best suited to final felling in oversized wood, natural stands and rugged
terrain applications. It will also be configured as a mulcher carrier (to be
designated as the M726D) to complement the larger Tigercat M760 mulcher.
From the cab back, the machine has been redesigned and divided into three
separate compartments. The first houses Tigercat’s cross-flow cooling system
with the automatic variable speed hydraulic fan that reverses manually or on a
pre-set timer to clear debris from the coolers.
The second compartment houses the Tier II Cummins QSC8.3 electronic engine
developing 215 hp at 2200 rpm. The M726D mulcher will be powered by an
electronic 245 hp QSC8.3 at 1800 rpm. The engine air intake has its own
compartment and is isolated from the engine compartment.
The rearmost compartment houses the hydraulic pumps and filters. The
Tigercat designers felt it important to separate the hydraulics from the engine
compartment.
The wheel base has been stretched nine inches for improved stability and a
tighter turn radius when the machines is equipped with larger tire sizes. Overall
length has been increased by seventeen inches, compared with its predecessor,
the 726B. The added length increases stability, allowing the 726D to handle
oversized and top-heavy trees with ease. It also affords space for additional
fuel capacity and a separate compartment for the batteries.
The machine also has two inches of additional ground clearance for higher
maneuverability and improved performance in challenging terrain.
Like the other D-series bunchers, the 726D now offers both the 2-speed and
wide-range infinitely variable transmission options.
