LH830 harvesters in Scotland
Two LH830 harvesters with telescopic
booms performing well in Scotland.
PARIS, ON, July 4, 2003 - Tigercat has two LH830 harvesters fitted with
telescopic booms operating in north Scotland clear fell applications. A third is
on the way. As well, H822 (flat bottom) harvesters with two-piece and telescopic
booms are slated to hit the north American market later this summer.
Less than a year ago Tigercat didn’t have a harvester package for the 822
or L830 carriers. But last September, in typical Tigercat fashion, an L830
arrived on the shores of Scotland equipped with a feller buncher boom, less
head. The machine was destined for the APF forestry show even though everyone
involved knew that Scottish timber harvesters don’t use feller bunchers; the
soft soil conditions dictate a cut-to-length harvesting method.
The machine was sold at the show and the telescopic boom was designed in the
months following and shipped to Scotland in February of this year.
The new telescopic ER harvester boom system has a cut envelope from 3.48 m
to 11 m (11 ft. 5 in. to 36. ft) and a bare pin lift capacity of 5000 lbs (2,270
kg) at full reach. The telescopic boom cylinder is located inside the boom.
Field comments from Scotland have been very positive. The contractors stress
that the ability to handle a 4,000 lb (1,800 kg) head, excellent stability and
superior operator visibility are important advantages of the LH830 harvester.
Both contractors see great value in the machine with its extreme duty FH400
undercarriage, oversized leveling components and superior construction.
