Innovative Saw Unit

Dual Cylinder Grapple

High Torque, High Rotation

Innovative Saw Unit

Dual Cylinder Grapple

High Torque, High Rotation

Overview

The 5185B is a versatile and customizable fixed wrist bar saw head. It effectively fells and controls large diameter timber while performing additional duties like topping, limbing and shovel logging. The 5185B is a great asset in high value hardwood stands.

Innovative Saw Unit

The Tigercat 750RP saw unit with a 240-degree bar feed angle enables single-side back cuts, reducing machine travel and soil disturbance.

Variable bar feed force control adapts to varying diameters and species.

The 5185B is standard equipped with a hydraulic chain tensioner with an optional manual tensioner.

Dual Cylinder Grapple

The dual cylinder grapple arm design provides maximum control when falling and grappling high-value timber.

The grapple-style arm design enables superior grip and excellent performance in selective felling and shovel logging applications.

High Torque, High Rotation

The high torque wrist enhances control falling of large diameter timber. 340-degree rotation reduces machine travel for improved fuel efficiency and track life, while allowing the operator to cut large limbs and tops with ease.

The hydraulic hoses are well protected with through-tip hose routing.

BTB visited Trevor Haywood of Trevor Haywood Timber Co. in Huntingdon, Tennessee to hear how his most recent purchase, a Tigercat LX830D feller buncher equipped with 5185 fixed felling saw, is fitting into the operation.

Customer Driven Design

BTB recently visited J&B Logging Inc. in Oakland, Maryland to see how Jimmy Glotfelty’s 5185 fixed felling saw is working out.

In the Thick of It

Jimmy Glotfelty wrestles with giants as he tiptoes through West Virginia’s natural mixed hardwood forests.

The J&B Logging Inc. crew soon after taking delivery of the LX830C in late 2010. (L-R) Tigercat district manager Jerry Smeak, Eric Savage (hand faller, dozer operator), Lynn Sisler (LX830C operator), Jimmy Glotfelty (owner) and Brad Beckman (240B loader operator). Skidder operator, Terry Alexander, is absent.
